Mr. Olympia is the title awarded to the winner of the professional men’s bodybuilding contest at Joe Weider’s Olympia Weekend. International bodybuilding competition that is held annually by the International Federation of BodyBuilding & Fitness (IFBB).

The contest is created to enable the Mr. Universe winners to continue competing and to earn money.

The first Mr. Olympia was held on September 18. 1965 at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, New York.

Mr Olympia 2012 contest was an IFBB professional bodybuilding competition and the feature event of Joe Weider’s Olympia Fitness & Performance Weekend 2012 held September 27–30, 2012 at the Las Vegas Convention Center and Orleans Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. It was the 48th Mr. Olympia competition. Other events at the exhibition included the 212 Olympia Showdown, Ms. Olympia, Fitness Olympia, and Figure Olympia contests.

A total prize pool of $650,000 was awarded.


Notable Events

  • Phil Heath won his second consecutive IFBB Mr. Olympia title
  • Kai Greene placed second, his best ever showing after finishing third in the 2011 Mr. Olympia contest
  • Evan Centopani placed eighth in his Mr. Olympia debut
  • Toney Freeman, at 46 years-old, finished in seventh place
  • Jay Cutler, four-time Mr. Olympia, could not compete after undergoing surgery for a torn left bicep

Generation Iron – examines the professional sport of bodybuilding today and gives the audience front row access to the lives of the top 7 bodybuilders in the sport as they train to compete in the world’s most premiere bodybuilding stage – Mr. Olympia.

A modern “Pumping Iron” aspires to present the director and screenwriter Vlad Yudin along with Edwin Mejia in production. The Yudin Mejia and cooperate with each other and with Jerome Gary, from the producers of Pumping Iron (1975) to record the preparation 7 professional bodybuilders (Phil, Kai, Branch, Yamagishi, Wolf, Pakulski, and Winklaar) for Mr. Olympia 2012.
