Training once a week: Science confirmed Mike Mentzer’s method

The legendary Mike Mentzer, one of bodybuilding icon whose methodology training for decades attracted enormous public attention and which was the subject of endless debate. This giant is, in fact, found that almost all bodybuilders have a problem with overtraining, but during the week practicing far less time, while also winning some of the biggest prizes in the sport.
The man who is the first in history had won a competition with the maximum number of points, which in 1978 won the title of Mr. Universe and win the heavyweight Mr. Olympia.

Mentzer’s approach to training is quickly made him even more popular, and has gained thousands of followers to years later their number substantially reduced, because of its drastic reduction of muscle mass, and especially after he left this world too early, in the 49th year life.

His training was brutal, maximum intensity, in which each repetition performed slowly and completely correct. The exercises were performed to the limit, and it is considered that for achieving maximum stimulation of each muscle group separately, it is ideal to exercise 20 to 30 minutes. After such training he rested four days, however, or even up to 7 days to the next.

Although his approach lost a lot of popularity, now the last scientific study has proved that he was right.

Scientific research that included 70 healthy adults, which were then divided into two age groups, clarified is what this is all about.

In the first group were persons aged 20-35 years, while in the second the elderly from 60 to 75 years. During the first phase of the research, which lasted 16 weeks, both groups had three endurance training per week. After that, divided into three groups. The participants of the first group were totally stopped exercising, others have reduced the number of weekly training from three to one, while the third group of participants also reduce the number of training from three to one, but at the same time reduce the number of sets for each muscle group from three to one.

The results showed that the legendary Mentzer found a good approach. In other words, a group of older exercisers, no one has managed to maintain the same muscle mass than before reducing the number of training from three to one, with younger trainees was completely different situation. Both groups whose participants reduce the number of training from 3 to 1, and the number of sets of 3 to 1, the survey are completed with the same outcome, that muscle mass was held still.

However, the measurements after the completion of the entire process of research there was one key difference – with members of the group of young trainees who have reduced the number of weekly training, but who at the same time maintain a complete range of training and have not reduced the number of series, recorded an increase in muscle mass!

It was also the best answer to the question whether the methods Mike Mentzer really has an effect.

Mr. Olympia 2016 | Who could be the winner?

This will definitely be one of the most interesting Mr. Olympia until now because, definitely everyone in the top eight is a candidate to win. It’s not just Phil Heath, it’s not just the Big Ramy, Shawn Rhoden, Dexter Jackson, Roelly Winklaar, Dallas McCarver, Cedric McMillan, there is still a couple of names that are not as well known but who can very much to do.

We shall all remember this Mr. Olympia for the return of Kevin Levrone, definitely one of the best competitors in history. It will be interesting to see the clash of the 90s and new bodybuilders. Definitely this is a good move that will attract older viewers as well as some new ones.

Phil Heath which is unbeatable the last couple of years is definitely the biggest than ever, but it does not mean that he is the best. For the last 3 years he was unfortunately getting worse and worse in the eyes of critics. Last year, he had the worst form, according to many Dexter Jackson was supposed to be the first with which we agree. Every year he comes bigger and not better.

This year will be interesting to see what will happen. On stage we will only see the real visual effect of muscle and body, and when they pose. For example, because Shawn Rhoden, who is one of the smallest competitors on stage looks larger than some that have more pounds than he.

Debut season as IFBB Pro: 1998 German Grand Prix, the ninth place
The best placement of the Mr. Olympia: 2004-05, 3rd place

During the first 6 years of professional career, he competed 17 times. 9 times ended with no result or was below the 15 cities, only three times in the top 10. He was very massive and solid proportions, but he is constantly out in bad shape. Once he was in shape, and in 2002, took the 3rd place. That gave him entry into the Mr. Olympia that year, where he finished 24th out of 25 competitors. Painfully?

The following year he went only in one competition, where he also lost his placement. There would most of them threw the towel and give up, but he was finally in good shape and in the spring of 2004 finished seventh at the Arnold Classic. After that is done the biggest (positive) shock in his career, when in 2004 entered the top 3 at the Mr. Olympia, but also repeated a year later. Three times he finished in the top 10 in the competition, and in those years he won three titles in other competitions.

His incredible leap of 21 places compared to two consecutive Mr. O competition (24th place at once, 3rd place to the next) record that will probably never be broken.

The best placement of the Mr. Olympia in 1993, 7th place.

Charles Clairmont had a terrible debut season in the IFBB Pro. He was the last (of 17 competitors) in the English Grand Prix competition, but not to prevent him to make one of the biggest turning point in the history of bodybuilding career.

There’s won almost everything that was looking at the back of the aforementioned competition, including Levronea and wheeler. He has won four of five contests occurring, including English GP – where a year ago finished last.

This Englishman, high 183 cm and weighs 111 kg, had one of the most harmonious body in his era. He competed in two more years but never again win a competition.

While some with sadness and sorrow in their eyes watching old photos of Frank Zane, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Franco Columbua and other greats, comparing them to those on what is today’s bodybuilding fallen, others try to find a way to restore the lost beauty of the construction of the human body.

Indeed, if we left in chronological order by analyzing the winner of the Mr. Olympia, as the best of the best in the world, could easily come to the conclusion that what was considered a perfect human body, began to die out after 1992 and the massive victory of Dorian Yates.

This was recognized by the organizers of big events, which will this year at the largest gathering repertoire include the category Classic Physique, which aims precisely at such – the legendary appearance of the body.

Category that is already attracting a lot of attention, and that its beauty could largely take away the attention of the standard bodybuilding heavyweight.

In this light, we present an overview of participants at one of the first major competition PRO Men’s Classic Physique category, which will happen on stage in 2016 IFBB New York Pro.

At the competition, the nine names registered with PRO licenses, and they are: Axel Alvarez Jr., Omar Bautista, R. D. Caldwell Jr., Darren Charles, Devon Lindner, Arash Rahbar, Sharif Reid, Ani Saliasi, Russell Waheed. How to look, you can check the photo gallery below.
