The first fitness equipment in the world | Old School Bodybuilding
The first fitness equipment in the world was invented by Dr. Gustav Zander in 1892.
Fitness was part of the daily lives of people not only today but also in the past, as evidenced we have black-and-white photos of the first fitness devices. We see that every machine is designed to train a specific part of the human body (like today’s machines).
Dr. Gustav Zander was a Swedish therapist and orthopedic, who discovered the link between exercise and health.
According to Zander muscle mass in the body needs to be accumulated gradually using the exercises that people have been doing for centuries.
The oldest fitness device called “gymnastics” was invented in 1796. A few decades later Zander simplifies this device and makes it more convenient to use.
Fitness machines are designed for the wealthy population in Sweden. 20-ies of XX century inventions of Dr. Gustav Zander had already spread across the United States.
During the 70’s Arthur Jones invented the machine “Nautilus” which is “pumped” muscles more than machines that was originally created by Gustav Zander. Today, these machines are one of the best devices for training.
Pictures from 1892 listed the invention are stored in the National Museum of Science and Technology in Stockholm.
